FAQ

Questions business owners ask before using an AI receptionist.

Clear answers about setup, safety, customer conversations, and what the AI is allowed to do.

What does PennyReply do?

PennyReply is the platform for Penny, an AI receptionist for service businesses. Penny captures website leads, helps recover missed calls, replies from approved business information, saves conversations, and routes risky requests to a human.

Does PennyReply work for more than one industry?

Yes. The product is built around the business setup, not one trade. Services, pricing, FAQs, service areas, booking rules, and handoff rules can be configured for different appointment-based businesses.

How does setup work?

A business owner can paste a website URL. PennyReply drafts services, FAQs, hours, contact details, service areas, and missing setup items. The owner reviews and confirms the information before Penny uses it with customers.

Can the AI quote prices?

Only from approved services and pricing rules. If the request needs a custom quote, has unclear details, or matches a handoff rule, the AI should ask a clarifying question or send the conversation to a human.

What happens when a customer writes a messy message?

PennyReply normalizes typos, slang, missing punctuation, and incomplete wording before intent detection. The original customer message remains visible in the conversation history.

Can I control the tone of the replies?

Yes. AI settings include tone, confidence threshold, auto-reply behavior, banned words, required phrases, custom quote approval, and handoff rules.

How does the website widget work?

PennyReply provides a hosted widget page and an embed script. The widget collects customer details, creates or updates a lead, saves the conversation, asks Penny for a safe reply, and shows the reply to the customer.

Does Basic include missed-call text back?

Basic is $149/month and includes missed-call text back. When you miss a call, Penny can send a text-back flow that captures the lead and starts the conversation automatically based on your settings.

How do SMS opt-outs work?

When SMS is enabled, customers can reply STOP to opt out and HELP for help. Business owners are responsible for collecting proper customer consent before sending texts, and PennyReply stores opt-out status so future replies can be blocked.

What is the setup fee?

One-Time Setup & Automation Buildout is $249. It covers business setup, services and pricing setup, FAQs, hours, booking rules, calendar, phone, SMS, widget setup, and bot testing before launch.

Why do plans have usage limits?

Usage limits help keep pricing fair. Basic includes 500 SMS/month and 250 AI conversations/month, and higher-volume businesses can upgrade anytime.

Do I have to turn on automatic replies right away?

No. Businesses can test in demo or manual mode first. Auto-reply can stay off while replies are saved as drafts or routed to the owner for review.

What happens when the AI doesn't know the answer?

Penny says so and hands the conversation to you. Penny should not invent prices, policies, or promises. If a request is unclear, she asks a clarifying question; if it's risky or outside your approved setup, she creates a handoff so a human decides.

How long does setup take?

Most owners finish the guided setup in one sitting. You paste your website, PennyReply drafts your services, prices, hours, and FAQs, and you review and confirm each item before Penny uses it. You can save and exit at any point — progress is kept automatically.
